Resiliance
An SMS system loaded with useful features is of no use if it does not work when needed. Our customers say reliability is the most important requirement of SMS Responder, so here's what we've done to make sure its there when you need it:
Two sites
However many separate data lines exist in and out of a building, however many uninterruptable power supplies or generators are installed, there is always the possibility that a single site will have a problem that stops computer servers from operating. A virus infection, flooding or a fire could all take down more than one web server.
We solve this by having two sites, one in Buckinghamshire and one in Somerset. They are connected to the Internet using different Internet Service Providers.
If you want to send a message using the web interface you can use either site, so if there is a problem with one there is always a backup.
If you want to send a message using your phone there are two phone numbers - one routed to each site. One uses Vodaphone, the other uses O2.
Two-way monitoring
Each site runs custom software that monitors the other site. If one site detects a problem with the other an SMS message is sent to the local on-call engineer - so if there is a problem we will know about it before you do.
UPS
It goes almost without saying that both sites use Uninterruptable Power Supplies to overcome power outages.
Delivery confirmation
Both Web and Phone interfaces provide delivery reports, so you'll know within seconds that your message has reached its intended recipients. This information is collected when Members' phones report back to their network that they have received an SMS, so if it says "Delivered" then you know the message has definitely reached your Member's phone.
